Newcastle model Beth Cowan scarred for life with distorted and lumpy mouth after botched lip fill

A MODEL has been left with a distorted and lumpy mouth after getting botched lip fillers.

Beth Cowan says she has been scarred for life after going to a clinic at the back of a hair salon to have the procedure.

The 22-year-old was left in agony for months after getting the treatment for bigger lips.

Beth, from Newcastle, said her treatment lasted about five minutes but she thought this was normal.

She told the Mirror: "It felt like I was on a conveyor belt with other patients waiting. Having never had any aesthetic treatments previously, I had nothing to compare to.

"I was told I could wear make up and could consume alcohol, although my lips had swollen immediately and were quite painful."

She went to the doctor and was told the procedure had been botched - with some of the filler even being put in the wrong place.

A doctor corrected the damage but Beth still has a lump on her mouth that she may have for the rest of her life.

Dr Steven Land, the doctor who treated her at his clinic Novellus Aesthetics, wants to raise awareness of people getting poorly done treatments.

He said: "It is shocking to see how someone can inject a lip so badly, endangering a young person’s looks, yet these procedures still go unregulated.

“Untrained and unqualified individuals lack the background anatomical knowledge to avoid complications as well as the ability to treat patients should complications arise."

Many people choose to get cheaper, but more risky, treatments in the UK as the cost of lip augmentation is high.

If these treatments are done badly the damage can be severe - with the lip tissue dying or blindness.

Beth made the news previously after telling of her brave battle with anorexia and bulimia.

She was dangerously underweight before an eating specialist got her back on track and she became a model.
